Small group training in Tampa

Small group training is not a class. Two to six people train at the same time, each on their own program, with one trainer coaching every set. You get most of the attention of 1-on-1 at a fraction of the cost.

Who this is for

  • You want coaching but 1-on-1 pricing doesn't fit the budget
  • You and a partner, a friend or coworkers want to train together
  • Big classes leave you unsure whether you're doing it right
  • You like a set time with people who expect you
  • You've plateaued training alone
  • You want to learn barbell lifts safely

How a group session runs

Individual programs

Everyone in the group follows their own plan. A beginner and an experienced lifter can train in the same hour.

Form coaching

With six people or fewer, the trainer sees every set and fixes problems before they become habits.

Fixed time slots

Groups meet at the same times each week, which is most of the reason people stick with it.

Progression

Loads and volume are tracked per person and moved up on a schedule.

Private groups

Bring your own group of two to six, at a partner gym or at one of your homes.

What affects the price

  • Group size. Two people costs more per person than five.
  • Sessions per week.
  • Whether it's an open group or a private one you assemble.
  • Location: partner gym or in-home for private groups.

You get the per-session or monthly price before you commit to anything.

Group training around Tampa Bay

Private groups are common in South Tampa, Westchase and Wesley Chapel, where neighbors split the cost and train in a garage gym or a community fitness center. Open groups run at partner gyms before work and in the early evening. Tampa's summer makes outdoor bootcamps a hard sell from May through October, which is one reason indoor small group work has grown here.

Common questions

How is this different from a class?

A class gives everyone the same workout. Small group training gives each person their own program, with a trainer coaching form on every set.

Do I need to bring my own group?

No. Open groups place you with people at similar levels. If you have friends who want to train, a private group is also an option.

What if I'm the least fit person there?

Your program is scaled to you. Nobody is doing the same weights or the same reps.

How many people is too many?

Six. Past that it becomes a class and form coaching suffers.
